some of those
spirits in the air over the mountain
gathered themselves into a girlwind who wanted
music before there was a word for music
and slowly she began to dance and
danced herself into a salsa dance and
danced herself round and round and
danced herself into a spin and spun
faster and faster and so fast she spun
the mountain bald and spun
so fast she spun a dress
of trees shorn and loose rocks around herself and spun
the girlwinds who got in her way and the boywinds who tried
to dance with her into herself and spun
her own spinning into a train on the tracks into
a jet on the runway kind of music and spun
‘til her own spinning began to sing
and singing then she danced
danced the salsa down the mountain side and singing
then she danced the spinning out of one dress
of trees shorn and loose rocks and danced
the spinning into another and spun
every boywind and every girlwind she met
into herself as she spun
across generic and no name and unheard of and unspoken africa
as she left it behind as she spun
herself out onto a steel silver water floor
where she spun
out of her dress of trees shorn and loose rocks as she spun
into a silver water gown as she spun
the water floor up into water walls she climbed and crashed
down on the water floor she spun
up into water walls she climbed and crashed
across the generic and no name and unheard of and unspoken
atlantic she spun
up into water walls she climbed and crashed
down on the coasts
of the generic and no name and unheard of and unspoken
americas before she dropped
her silver water gown on them as she spun over them as she spun
into another dress of trees shorn and loose rocks before she died
naked and exhausted and asleep in their hearts
some of those
