Jake's Flea Market

it never comes out the way it went in

all those days i’ve forgotten

all those days i've forgotten

the first thousand times i was call orazio

when i first lived in castle rooms i
don't remember looked out over a lake when
my father lived in my childhood

those days mother was confined
out of my sight pregnant
first with paolo then with felicia

i wish i could remember the thousand times i
suckled at the wet nurse's nipple

i've forgotten her breast

that day i spoke my first word i want
the nurse to have called mother
encouraged me to say the word again

the day and the room in which i
first stood first stepped
perhaps tottered then stepped again

and that day my wounded father
i imagine he died in his bed i can't remember
